NEURAL THERAPY
Neural therapy is a regulatory therapy designed to activate compensatory systems in the body and reduce pain. By injecting local anesthetics into trigger points in the muscles, as well as segments, ligaments, and scars, both acute and chronic pain can be influenced.
Application
Neural therapy can be applied for back pain, muscle tension, irritation of tendons and joints. The healing time after injuries can be shortened. Even postoperatively, residual symptoms that respond well to neural therapy may persist.
In holistic medicine, neural therapy is also employed as a supportive method for regulating various conditions, including the immune system, recurrent infections, and fatigue syndromes.
What happens during a neural therapy session?
A neural therapy session lasts 15 – 30 minutes. A thorough examination is conducted before the first treatment. Multiple sessions are usually necessary, often with a one-week interval.
During the neural therapy session, a local anesthetic (procaine or lidocaine) is precisely injected into selected areas.
Which medication is used?
A local anesthetic (procaine or lidocaine) is used. NO cortisone is used for neural therapy. Local anesthetics inhibit pain fibers and interrupt pain transmission. They alter the tissue environment and promote blood circulation. This initiates a regulatory and relaxation process.
How quickly does neural therapy work?
Neural therapy initiates healing processes, and the effectiveness depends on the patient’s specific condition.
Improvement can occur immediately or after several days, but multiple sessions may be required for chronic conditions.
A temporary increase in discomfort for several days, known as an “initial worsening,” is possible. During this time, there may be slightly more discomfort, which typically resolves within a few days. If you experience a temporary increase in pain, you may take your pain medication.
Your observations regarding the pain course are crucial for the treatment.
What is allowed after neural therapy?
On the same day as the treatment, it is advisable to avoid engaging in sports activities. Rest and relaxation support the healing process.
Physiotherapy is permitted on the same day. (In the case of active physiotherapy involving exercises, it should be done before neural therapy.)
